Employment - as many of you already know - can be shit. There isnt a better word for it. Self-employment is hard though. The money appears to be flowing well enough (touch wood) and getting clients is not proving too much of a problem. But since taking the leap I have become generally more tired and often feel mentally drained by the end of each day.
This is odd because in essence I was doing exactly the same thing before for my previous employer - literally running the place with my collegue-come-business partner - and felt unaffected.
Has anyone else had such an experience?

I know where you are comig from, lots of people think that owning your own business is the way to go, but it is way more work then most people think, longer days and harder work, but it pays off in the long run if you can put up with all the trouble.

Me again, I owned my first business when I was 16. My brothers and I used to buy firewood, chop it and sell it, it was a great experience, we made a killing, mainly because we didn't claim or register anything. That was the start for me.

I found the same thing when working freelance full-time. I was always exhausted. I suppose not only is there the extra "management" aspect to consider (chasing new work, dealing with invoices, managing finances etc...), but there's the fact that you will ultimately care more about the work itself, and lavish more effort on it than if you were working for someone else.

At present, I'm the most exhausted I have ever been as I'm working full-time and freelancing in my spare time. More fool me eh? - On 19th October 2006 P.J. Onori said:

It's called stress my good friend. You have much greater responsibility and repercussions of your actions. I greatly respect your leap into self-employment.
